We are in a very challenging time of unknowns…how long will this last? Should I bunker down? How do I cope with all this fear?
A lot of people have been asking me about the 80’s. Some of them know that I went though that scary period when Aids and the fear of Aids was rampant. How did you get though that? What did you do? For me, the answer came through community…we formed the Spiritual Healing Centre …bringing people together to support those who were sick and dying and also to support doctors who were needing encouragement to continue their work in the face of such devastating losses. And to lift each other up.
I also remember my own personal explosion of fear which happened after arriving in Canada..my family blown apart, deception, abuse, mental health issues etc. It was like an epidemic in that it got larger and scarier by the day.
And now we are faced with a pandemic! This COVID 19 virus is right in our faces..we see a terrifying global impact and once again, we are not sure what do do.
How do we deal with all-encompassing fear?
In all cases, there’s not much we can personally do to stop the virus in its tracks. Until some brilliant and fast-working scientists develop a vaccine, we are in the midst of sickness, death and increasing fear. What we CAN do is work with how we are living through this. We can come together and look at the situation thoughtfully.
On channel one, the virus is here. We must deal with that in all the ways that are being recommended by experts…washing our hands, avoiding crowds and travel etc.
On channel two, we can invite our true human to emerge and lead the way for us and for our village. We CAN deal with our own fear. If we each curb our fears and put that now-available energy into nourishing ourselves and others, we can strengthen the whole village. Once again, we must return to the basics…the tree will prosper and grow if it’s roots are nurtured. Make sure you are giving yourself what you need to feed your roots…exercise, good food, clean air and loving connections with yourself and others.
Go inside, breath deeply, melt your fear. Become the Rainmaker.
If you don’t know what that means, check out the wisdom story called The Rainmaker and another one called The Impossible Dream. I’m offering both of these stories to anyone who’d like them. Just email me and I’ll send them to you. I know they will give you a healthy perspective…another way of looking at our current situation and a way to live through it without the limiting effect of over-whelming fear.
We are all in this together. Let’s step into our true humans. Let’s seize the opportunity to trust our highest selves to guide us through this…together.
