The third act – so glorious, so magnificent! The beautiful butterfly emerges, waits for the sun to warm its wings, then flies away, flitting from flower to flower. Not only is it a glorious sight to behold, but it is also doing such important work…pollinating gardens, spreading even more beauty for us all to enjoy. It looks so effortless and that’s why it’s so beautiful…there’s a freedom in the way it moves, an exuberance of colour and a perfection of form.
We can see its two wings as representing the being and the doing. Its body is the becoming.
And Becoming is the first aspect of Beauty I want to talk with you about. The transition of becoming a fully-expressed being is so beautiful. We thrill to stories about emergence into freedom of full expression. The kid who struggled and got into trouble and looked like he was heading for a nasty ending. A plot turn and presto, the kid lives up to his full potential…he becomes his true self and he shows us his beauty. We never get tired of seeing those stories of transformation. And by the way, we are living one. We are in the process of Becoming our beautiful best self. We have gone from Wound to Womb and now we are ready to emerge as a Wonder! Just don’t get stuck in the goo. It might take a little longer than it takes the butterfly to emerge from his cocoon, but it will happen. Beauty awaits. And a village awaits your particular gorgeousness.
Beauty arrests us. It captures us. Have you ever been stopped in your tracks by something beautiful? The way sunlight filters through trees, a child’s face completely immersed in play, moonlight on a lake, a friend’s tears, an elderly couple holding hands, a garden after rain…so many moments that make us catch our breath because they are just so darn beautiful. That ability to capture us is another aspect of Beauty I want you to notice. It has its own organizing principle…it delivers. Think about one of the oldest Purpose Formulas—-
Beauty….Contemplation …..Intimacy.
We are arrested by the beauty of something or someone. We contemplate it…we can’t help it—it captures us. We feel a connection, an intimacy with that object or person, because our soul has acknowledged one of its own qualities. We are connected, mirrored through beauty.
Being seen is another aspect of Beauty. The elevation of energy happens for both the seen and the one seeing. You must have experienced that feeling of actually being seen. I hope you have because it’s one of the most powerful feelings we humans can feel. When someone truly sees you, you feel a powerful sense of connection with yourself. It is one of the greatest gifts you can give someone when you take the time to see them deeply…to see them for who they are.
Being seen means that you actually blossom!
Here are a couple of questions to help you sink more deeply into the idea of Beauty.
- What beauty do you have for the world, especially right now?
- What kind of self-care do you need to do, so that your beauty may truly be accessed and appreciated?
- Who in your village can see you in your beauty and what would they say about it?
Relish your Beauty! Allow it to blossom and shine and watch how the world breathes you in! Emerge! Be your butterfly!
